Alamos Red Blend
Alamos Red Blend is picked at optimum ripeness to preserve its full-flavored, structural balance. Know for rich layers of dark plum fruit sourced from our Malbec variety, juicy black cherries sourced from Bonarda and blackberries sourced from Syrah, Alamos Red Blend offers a luscious-style, full-body wine that is every bit approachable as it is unique.
We start with our juicy, incredibly aromatic and concentrated Malbec and its dense plum, juicy blackberry and black cherry flavors typical of Argentinian Malbec from the adventurous Mendoza winegrowing region. Uniquely, we add Bonarda to the red blend, a European variety that thrives in Argentina. Commonly known as Charbono in the United States, Bonarda adds intense color, dried fruit character and classic savory notes of leather and black olives. Cabernet Sauvignon adds rich berry and slight herbal notes, while intriguingly spicy black pepper and blueberry notes come from Syrah. The Red Blend wine consists of 65% Malbec, 16% Bonarda, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Syrah.
Despite a cold and wet vintage in 2014, Alamos winemakers were able to bring in highly concentrated fruit with incredible acidity and tannin structure, as well as intense aromatics due to 2014’s cool conditions. The grapes were handpicked, then crushed and given a one- to two-day cold soak before fermentation for additional extraction of color, tannin and flavor.
