Hand selected from vineyards in the cool climate district of La Consulta, Alamos Selección is the brand’s premier Malbec offering. La Consulta lies in the southern part of the Mendoza region, close to the Andes prominent southwest curvature. Grapes for Alamos Selección are handpicked, de-stemmed, and crushed prior to a three-to-four day cold soak. This wine ferments in a combination of aged French and American oak for sixteen to eighteen months before final blending.
Our 2013 Alamos Selección Malbec wine is the pinnacle of our portfolio, a hallmark wine for Alamos and the signature grape of the Mendoza region. This bold Malbec Selección wine marries dense, dark fruit flavors with subtle minerality and muscular structure. It’s an adventurous and unique mountain red, with plenty of depth and nuance created by Mendoza’s truly distinctive growing conditions. This full-bodied Malbec wine begins with complex aromas of juicy dark fruits and hints of floral violet and wildflowers. On the supple palate, abundant fruit flavors of ripe black currant and plum are framed by hints of black pepper and baking spices, leading to a lingering, luscious finish.
The 2013 growing season required longer hang time for the grapes to reach full maturation. Higher yields throughout the region resulted in exceptional quality grapes with intense aromatics.
